President Yoweri Museveni has flagged off the upgrading works for Kiira-Kasangati-Matugga road from gravel to bituminous standard at a ceremony held at Kiira Municipality in Wakiso district.

The 21 kilometers road that is to be upgraded under supervision of  Uganda National Road Authority (UNRA),starts from Kiira Town round about running Westwards crossing the Kampala-Gayaza road in Kasangati and ending at the Kampala-Bombo Highway.

The President who had just arrived from Katonga flagged off the road works and waved at the residents who were extremely exited to see their leader.

The Kiira-Kasangati-Matugga road will contribute towards the improvement of the traffic flow within and around Wakiso as well as easing connection to the trunk roads especially the Bombo and Jinja highways.

The road project will also provide for bicycle lanes, pedestrian crossing, bicycle racks, bus stops, tactile paving for the blind access to affected persons and lighting for the junctions that will be powered by solar.

According to UNRA, the road that will improve the safety of non-motorized road users through the provision of cycle lanes will in turn contribute in the governments program of eradication of poverty and hence spur development.
